Alyssa Monks: a look inside of yourself
When thirty years ago the first paintings of hyperrealists were presented in the Hermitage, they caused a mad rush. The reaction was like an enthusiastic statement - that's exactly what painting should be like. Visitors endlessly enjoyed what they saw, and the people were looking at them with a dense crowd. Perhaps, because for the positive perception of these paintings it was not necessary to be an art critic. It should be specially noted that at that time no one heard anything more than about Photoshop, even about digital photography. Today, skeptics say that hyperrealism is not an artistic drawing at all, but a skill of copying photographs. Which can, of course, be called modern art, but only alternative.
All skeptics should have looked at the works of Alisa Monks (Alyssa Monks), hyperrealistic that you can not find anything. And they are performed in a genuinely narrative genre. The artist depicts a specific, clearly limited space, and in a short period of time. In her author's role, both alienation and empathy are felt at the same time.
Objects of Alice Monks's paintings are mostly human bodies, and the plot is water. And the merger of both is very organic. The islets of water droplets and settled vapor on the glass refract the contours of the body, and the figure forms new shapes. The details are infinitely accurate and alive. The water is wet, but the sink is old. And in the painted breast rhythmically beats heart. It seems that the artist's goal is to find a boundary between a living person and a non-living thing. It is possible that not the border itself, but the confrontation on it. Then everyone who finds it, can look into the human nature of himself.
